There are essentially three main spots to grab the bus out of Ahuachapán.
Be aware that google maps indicates that there is a “Terminal de buses” a couple blocks north of the Parque General Francisco Menendez. This is incorrect. There may have been a terminal there at one time, but the large building is now a massive market – which incidentally is fun to wander around!
To Las Chinamas Border
If you are heading to Las Chinamas then you need to head to Parque General Francisco Menendez (see map and photos) where buses leave regularly.
To Sonsonate, Ataco or Juayúa
If you are headed to Sonsonate, Ataco or Juayúa on bus 249 then you will head to the main intersection where the Ruta las Flores heads south out of town (see map and photos). You will also find smaller sized buses to Ataco, which cost $0.40 and take about 25mins.
To Santa Ana
If you are on your way to Santa Ana on the 210 then you will leave from the same general location as that main intersection but on the other side of the multi street intersection where you will find several buses to several locations passing leaving from a connecting street (see map and photos). The costs 0.90$ and takes 1 hour 10.
To San Salvador
If you are heading to San Salvador on the 202 then you need to head out of town a bit to grab the bus. Hire a red tuc tuc to take you there. You can also walk as it’s not crazy far, but a tuc tuc is cheap and they will know exactly where to take you. Sorry no images of this bus stop.
I took the 210 bus from Santa Ana de Ahuachapán and back. It costs 48 cents (one way), and takes approximately 1:10 to 1:20 depending on traffic conditions. The return bus to Santa Ana actually didn’t make it all the way to the Lara Pineda bus terminal, I assume because it was rush hour so everyone got off the bus some three of four block before reaching the terminal.
From Santa Ana it is bus 210.
It takes 1.5 hours and costs 50 cents.
Last bus departs at 19:00 and they leave every 10 minutes or so
To Las Chinamas border it’s bus 11(small). Search for Las Chinamas bus stop on google maps. In the corner of the park
It takes about 35 minutes and costs 50cents.
Keep in mind the last bus from the border to Guatemala City leaves at 15:30 so arrive in time before that.
