Almost everyone heading to Las Peñitas is coming from León or at least passing through. The bus stop for the chicken bus heading to Las Peñitas is on the western side of the city at a spot called El Mercadito (sometimes called the Sautiava Market) located in the Sutiava Neighbourhood. The distance is about 4km and a taxi here shouldn’t cost you too much – about 40C$ depending on how much luggage you have. From the south side of the Mercadito you will find the buses heading to Las Peñitas and Penaloya.
Buses leave every hour and cost 14 cordobas.

Managua to Las Peñitas
Head to the UCA Microbus Terminal and find the microbus headed to León. The price (2017) is 54C$ and the trip takes about 1.5 to 2hrs. You will arrive at the main terminal in León and from there you need to grab a taxi to the Mercadito. This is likely going to be a little frustrating and you will be quoted a bunch of different number. Try saying confidently “El Mercadito… 40 cordobas si?”. I find this often works for me. Instead of asking them what the price is, state the price like you’ve done it before.
How much is the bus though? C$10?
