Tag us on instagram @centrocoasting! We will regram your travels and show others what your bus travels look like.

In general there are two places to grab the bus when leaving Juayuá. If you are heading south towards Sonsonate or north towards Ahuachapán then your buses will arrive and depart from right across from the Scotia Bank (see map). If you are headed to Santa Ana then the bus stops just one block south of Hotel Anahúac (see map)

To/from Santa Ana

Take bus 238. It takes about 1.5hrs and costs $0.80. Buses heading to Santa Ana leave at the corner of Calle Mercedes Pte and 5a Av Sur (see map).

A big thanks to your fellow traveller named Marc for sending in a shot of an updated schedule (Sept 2018). This schedule seems to change fairly often so if you see any new changes let us know in the comments below!

Bus schedule from Santa Ana to Juayua

To Ataco

Grab the 249 headed to Ahuachapán. It passes Ataco along the way. To come back, the same bus. They leave every 15min,  $0.50, ~ 30min.

To Sonsonate

Bus 249, every 15min,  $0.60, ~ 45min

To Ahuachapán

Bus 249, every 15min,  $0.60, ~ 45min

To San Salvador

Take the 249 to Sonsonate and switch to the 205 to San Salvador arriving at the  Terminal de Occidente.

To Suchitoto

Take the 249 to Sonsonate and switch to the 205 to San Salvador. You will arrive at the Terminal de Occidente and need to switch to the Terminal de Oriente and get the 129 which heads to Suchitoto. Read more about getting there on the Suchitoto page.

To Lago de Coatepeque

Take the 238 to Santa Ana and then switch to the 220 or the 242 which will take you all the way to the lake.

Cerroverde, Izalco and Santa Ana Volcanos.

Head to Santa Ana on the 238 bus. Change to the Terminal de buses Vencedora and get the 248. The bus leaves at 7:30am and returns back to Santa Ana at 3pm and 4pm  ($0.90).

To/from the beach: La Libertad, El Tunco, Sunzal, El Zonte, La Mizata

To get to Juayuá from the beach, your best option is to take the direct 287 bus to Sonsonate which leaves from La Libertad and passes the entrance to these beaches. This bus runs only twice per day leaving La Libertad at 6am and 1:30pm. From Sonsonate you then change to the 249 bus to Ahuachapán, which will pass Juayuá.  This bus can depart La Libertad early so best be at your stop a little bit early.

Heading back to the beach you can grab the 249 bus from Juayuá to Sonsonate and then change to the 287 heading to La Libertad. This bus also only leaves Sonsonate twice per day at 6am and 3:30pm so you have to time your trip accordingly.

If you don’t make the 287 then you can head to San Salvador first.  No need to change stations in San Salvador as they both arrive and depart from Terminal de Occidente.

to/from Guatemala

If you are coming from Guatemala through La Hachadura you need to take the  259 bus heading to Sonsonate and change buses to the 249 heading to Ahuachapán and get off at Juayúa.  If you are coming from Las Chinamas you will head to Ahuachapan and then head south to Sonsonate.

We do note 100% guarantee accurate information. In general the majority of buses operate between just before sunrise until sunset. Times are listed when we have them, but remember, you are in El Salvador and even the locals say the schedules are 'loco' sometimes. Always plan enough time in your day for travel and plan to be at your destination before the sun sets. Avoid arriving when it's getting dark. Short distance buses will cost between $0.25 and $1.50 and longer distance buses $1.50-$3.00. Some routes offer more than one class of travel: regular class and especial which often has a/c and makes fewer stops but cost a little more. Also, know that you and only you are responsible for your own health and safety in your travels and the choices you make. Travel safe and travel smart - and have fun!

The bus stop for buses heading to Sonsonate or Ahuachapán

Same stop as the previous photo but how you will likely find it - with one or two buses waiting.

You will know you are in the right spot when you see the Scotia Bank.

If you are heading towards Ahuachapán then you stand a little further up the street here at the corner. The bus you see waiting there is the one going to Sonsonate and it stops in front of the little snack shop.

Leaving for Ahuachapán at the corner in front of the park benches.

  6. Molly

    Hello,
I am looking for directions to get to Juayúa from the airport. I have an Airbnb reserved for Thursday. My flights gets in at 1:40pm. Is it possible to get there by public transit? How long will this take? Thank you!!!

    • centrocoasting

Hi Molly, you are best to go through San Salvador. https://centrocoasting.com/elsalvador/el-salvador-international-airport/. You head to the Terminal de Occidente and then from there get the bus headed to Sonsonate. You could also possibly get the bus headed to Ahuachapan from Occidente as I think is should pass Juayua area, but I havent done this one. Be aware that buses only run until sunset and this is a long journey. All of the info is on each of the pages on the site so you can add up the hours once you get out of the airport and see if you can make it! (oops, sorry, just saw this comment was posted on the 19th)

“Heading back to the beach you can grab the 259 bus from Juayuá to Sonsonate”

    This should be 249, not 259 🙂

      Thanks for catching that typo!
