The bus station in Somoto is small but you can get to Estelí and Managua easily, which gives you easy access to the rest of Nicaragua. The station is organized and buses don’t leave until they’ve pulled into a lane right in front of the waiting area.
Estelí to Somoto Town
Take the bus that leaves from Cotran Norte. It costs 46 Cordobas, and takes 2 hours. You can check the schedules here.
Somoto Town to Somoto Canyon
Take the bus to El Espino, which leaves at 5:15 am, 6:15 am, 7:15 am, 8:45 am, 9:30 am, 10:30 am, 11:45 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:45 pm, 4:15 pm, and 5:15 pm. This costs 15 cordobas.
Estelí to Somoto Canyon
There is one bus leaving from Cotran Sur at 2 pm that goes to El Espino, which can drop you off at Somoto Canyon.
Managua to Somoto
There are express and non-express buses that leave from Mercado Roberto Huembes and go to Somoto. You can also take buses headed to Ocotal, get off at the the intersection of route 1 and route 6, then catch a bus heading to Somoto. Buses run frequently between Ocotal and Somoto and Estelí and Somoto, so you can catch either one of these.
León to Somoto
From León, you can take the bus to Estelí, which takes 3 hours, leaves around every 1.5 hours, and costs 110 cordobas. This bus will drop you off at Cotran Sur. From there, walk 10 minutes to Cotran Norte and catch the bus to Somoto.
