3 travel tips for Útila - share your tips below!

  1. Jordan

Just did this trip May 8th , changes are watch the colectivo in Puerto Barrio it’s 30q (tried to charge 75q) to the border. I skipped the chicken bus from the border to puerto Cortes because I took a bus for 100q (a bit expensive in comparison) direct to San Pedro Sula at the main terminal in San Pedro Sula buses are now 175-180L dont take Dana Express no ac for 4 hours! There are ATMs at the terminal if you forget to change your money at the border

  2. Karolina

    FROM LIVINGSTON GUATEMALA
to La Ceiba and island the same all the way to La Ceiba,
    1. from Livingston boat to Puerto Barrios (first boat at 6 is the best option) 35Q,
    2. in Puerto Barrios take colectivo to the border (frontera Honduras) for 25Q, from 6a avenida just ask. (Whenever you leave the boat there will be drivers waiting and offering “good price” for shuttle to La Ceiba or the border, but all will be much more expensive)
    3. Go to migration office get your stamp of leaving Guatemala and entering to Honduras (3$ entrance fee)
    4. Go all the way straight and catch chicken bus to Puerto Cortes (55 HNL) bus stop on the right after police station (ask)
    5. Ask driver for a bus to San Pedro he will tell you when to get off, cross the street and take DIRECT bus to San Pedro 52 (HNL)
    6. Get off on the last station Terminal, and ask for a bus to La Ceiba, better take Mirna bus company (bigger buses) 121L, other companies around 115L
    7. After 4 hour ride to La Ceiba, take taxi (50L) to the ferry. Remember last Ferry to Utilla goes at 4 pm
