Tag us on instagram @centrocoasting! We will regram your travels and show others what your bus travels look like.

So you want to take the bus to Popoyo? Let me first start off by saying that if you are headed to the main strip of hotels near Popoyo main surf break (Playa Guasacate) then you should know that you can not get a bus to your door! You will have a bit of a walk ahead of you unless you can find a ride.

Buses depart from the Rivas station.

You have two options:

Option 1: Get the bus headed to Astillero and get off at the entrance to Playa Guasacate and walk the ~4km to your hotel.

Option 2: take the bus going to Las Salinas and then try to taxi the rest of the way. This bus leaves Rivas at 5:30am, 9:10am, 11am, 12:50pm*, 2:30pm, 4pm and 4:50pm. (*possibly no 12:50pm bus anymore)

Taxi from Rivas

Everyone’s least favourite part about Rivas – dealing with the taxi drivers. A taxi fare should cost you about $30 USD (2017). I’d recommend looking around for others to share the taxi with. Chances are if you wait a bit someone will show up.

To Magnific Rock or Nica Waves

If you are staying at Magnific Rock  or Nica Waves – You can take that Las Salinas bus and get off at the road that heads to Magnific Rock – there will be a sign or ask the driver. It is about a 2km walk in to Magnific Rock and about 1km to Nica Waves.

Going Back To Managua

One helpful traveller named Emma has confirmed there is a bus that leaves Las Salinas between 5am and 5:30am. You can flag this bus down on the main road by the Magnific Rock sign as it passes or can also flag it down on the NI-62 stretch between El Limon Dos and Las Salinas.

Needing to go back to Rivas to get to Granada

Does anyone know the departure times of the buses leaving from las Salinas to Rivas ?

    • Will

Hi Carla, hope the journey went well! Did you get any information about the departure times?

  2. Arne

We took the bus at 12.50 from Rivas so Las Salinas today. It still exists 🙂 50 Cordoba.

  3. Céline D.

Today I took the 2.40 pm bus from Rivas bus terminal to Las Salinas. It costs 50 cordobas. Be careful because I asked 3 times the guy in the bus to tell me when I have to get out of the bus to go to Magnific Rock and he actually didn’t…

  4. Gil

Today I took the 11am bus from Rivas bus terminal to Las Selinas and got off at the marked point to walk the 2 km to Magnific Rock. Not sure anymore about the price – something between 50c and 100c including one big bag.

  5. Mcg

How much was that bus from las Salinas to Managua?

  6. Mariana

Bus Rivas to Las Salinas is now C$50/person. They decided not to go to Las Astillero as it should have because it wasn’t worth going for just 2 people. It would have been about C$60 to Las Astillero.

  7. Fanni

We went to Popoyo a few days ago, there was no 12,50 bus so we took the 2,30 bus. It is very cheap and we told the driver to please drop us off at the bridge to Popoyo (la puente) and there our hostel had a tuktuk waiting for us which I recommened because it would have been to far for us to walk. Today we are going to Granada so we have to take the bus back to Rivas and from there to Granada.
Thank you for a very helpful website!

      Thank you, Fanni!

Hey! Bit of info for the website regarding a bus from the Popoyo area to Managua in Nicaragua. There is a bus that leaves Las Salinas around 5.30 am and gets into the Mercado Roberto Huembes terminal around 8.45 am. You can also hail down the bus along the stretch of the Nic-62 between El Limon Dos and Las Salinas before 5.30. We caught it on the main road near the turn off for Magnific Rock at around 5.20 last Saturday, although we were told it could pass at any time after 5ish.

The website is great, we’ve found it invaluable for travelling Central America. Thanks for all the work you put into it!
